Abstract des Autors

In 42 female swimmers of the German National Team (33 free style, 4 breast stroke, 5 back stroke) we measured the behavior of blood lactate versus swimming velocity during the 300 m step test and the distance covered in a swimming time of 30 min. The distance for a swimming of 30 min derived from the lactate vs. velocity curve was calculated at the "lactate breaking point" (incline of 45 degrees when on the x-axis <v> 0.1 m/s = 2 cm, and on the y-axis <lactate> 1 mmol/l = 1 cm), the "Simon-threshold" (basis lactate = beginning of the increase of the lactate curve + 1.5 mmol/l), and at the "4 mmol/l lactate level". Those values were well correlated with the values measured in the 30 min test but only the calculated values derived from the lactate breaking point were similar to those of the 30 min test. We concluded that measurements of endurance capacity are equivocal by all methods used, but the individual lactate vs. velocity curve is most suitable for recommendations concerning intensities of endurance training.
