Abstract des Autors

The present study aimed to elaborate an a non-invasive approach for testing of swimmers which would be both inexpensive and easy to administer without special requirements for blood sampling or other complex measurements. The testing protocol is based an utilising under-water pace-maker lights to ad just swimming speed. Stroke performance in terms of stroke rate (SR) and stroke length (SL) was measured during the course of the testing session. The end velocity of the test corresponded well with the swimmers' 400-m speed an the average. The swimming speed at which the swimmers reached the point of maximum SL corresponded well with the swimmers ability to swim longer distances at sub-maximal intensities. The findings of the present study encourage to further attempts to validate and standardise the testing procedure to be applied in exercise testing for swimmers. Verf.-Referat
