Abstract des Autors

In contrast to patients with coronary artery disease exercise is thought to be too dangerous in dilative cardiomyopathy (DCM). Thus, it was investigated whether calisthenics can safely be performed in outpatients with DCM. In 21 patients (18 m, 3 f; 55.8 +/- 8.2 years) Doppler echo and hemodynamic evaluation during a symptom limited exercise test (supine position) were performed. 7 patients participated in a weekly calisthenic program and exercised at home at the same workload. They were compared to 14 controls. After 1 year the exercise capacity of all patients remained unchanged (0.94 +/- 0.5 vs. 0.98 +/- 0.5 W/kg). Coordinative abilities improved with calisthenics (+40.4%) and remained constant in controls (-2.6%). No sports-related complications have occurred since 1989. To sum up, calisthenics may safely be performed to improve coordinative abilities in outpatients with DCM. Verf.-Referat
