Abstract des Autors

In order to determine the metabolic changes during competitive table tennis 10 players of the 1. and 2. league were tested in a team competition. The observed parameters of the energy metabolism were all influenced by the low mean intensity and the long duration (3-3.5 h) and therefore corresponded with results in endurance sports: <lac> in blood was only slightly increased (2.0 +/- 0.7 mmol/l), the mean concentration of both cortisol and glucose was almost unchanged, lipolysis, however, was significantly enhanced and the activity of insuline was mainly decreased. The high intensity of the short exercise periods was reflected in the heart rate kinetics (maximal values 190 beats/min could often be observed) and in changes of the electrolytes and their hormonal control.
