| abstract |
Growing interest in muscle power in clinical practice oblige us to reflect on its evaluation. No method of muscle power measurement was found as yet, which would be simple in realization, objective, precise, and reliable. The attempt undertaken to create nomograms determining muscle power in relation to body weight, could be a practical investigation method, applicable in any clinical conditions. This could eliminate the necessity to use sophisticated instruments and measurement methods. The study included 53 men aged 18-25 years, students of the Academy of Physical Education in Warsaw. The measurements were done in a special measuring position under conditions of statics, by the volitive method. The obtained results were subjected to computer analysis in order to observe the relationship between the moments of force of shoulder joint extensors, elbow joint flexors, and radiocarpal joint flexors, and the body weight. A statistically significant relationship was found between the moments of force achieved in the studied movements, and the body weight. The high correlation between the moments of force of the studied muscle groups in the right and the left upper extremities made possible an elimination of discrimination between the right and the left side of the body.
