Abstract

The role of sport science is unquestioned in attempts for the high performance sport prizes. Lithuanian sport scientists are very active in training Lithuanian national team athletes, as well as other high performance and young athletes. However, it is necessary for Lithuanian sport science to keep contacts with scientists from neighborhood countries aiming not to be insular, to draw vitality and new ideas from elsewhere. Such collaboration among the Baltic States began long ago, in Soviet period, when the only Sport Science Council in the Baltic States functioned in Tartu University and graduate students could maintain thesis for a degree there. Each of the Baltic States had created their own sport science system alter restoration of independence. But now it is the time for closer collaboration, for consolidation of scientists’ potential, for showing as separate regional unit of the Baltic States in international Sport science field. The Baltic States Sport Science Council, re-created in 2008, helps to work for this goal. The main Council’s function is to develop sport science in the Baltic states. Verf.-Referat
