Abstract

Research aim is an overview of current issues of Lithuanian sports science development at Lithuanian Sports University. Lithuanian Sports University is an open European university, constantly developing and providing study and continuous education programmes for all cycles of studies on the basis of the latest research and technologies. Since 2012, five key research areas have been distinguished: Couching science, sports physiology and genetics; Skeletal muscles, motor control and rehabilitation; Health, physical and social education in the society undergoing changes; Leisure management, economics and sociology; physiological and social aspects of empowerment of disabled. Researchers and the faculty actively participate in national and international scientific conferences. Numerous scientific seminars, symposia and conferences are organized at the University. There are three laboratories operating at Lithuanian Sports University: Laboratory of Research and Studies in Adapted Physical Activity, Laboratory of Kinesiology and Centre for Fundamental and Clinical Human Movement Research. Doctoral studies in the areas of Education and Biology are undertaken at Lithuanian Sports University. Biology PhD studies are carried out jointly with the University of Tartu University (Estonia), and Education - jointly with the Lithuanian University of Educational, Sciences, Kaunas University of Technology and Šiauliai University. Young scientists get involved in a variety of scientific activities, which enable them not only to deepen theoretical and methodological knowledge of the specific areas of sciences, but also to carry out research of international significance, participate in international projects and internships abroad. Researchers at the University make known this institution of higher education for high achievements in sports science and research not only in Lithuania, but also abroad. Their articles are published in prestigious scientific journals which are read and valued by the world elite of sports science. Every year University scientists write about 150 scientific publications, about 25 publications of which are in the refereed journals of the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) databases. Over the last few years, LSU scientists have received support for important public projects from Lithuanian and international funds. Verf.-Referat
