Der in der zweiten Haelfte des 19. Jahrhunderts von England ausgehende moderne Sport ist heute ein globales kulturelles Phaenomen verschiedenster sozialer Praktiken verbunden mit politischen, oekonomischen, kulturellen und nicht zuletzt geschlechtsspezifischen Konsequenzen. Vor diesem Hintergrund kann die Entstehung des Bildes der modernen Sportsfrau - im Westen als Symbol der Emanzipation gefeiert - im Vergleich zu dem im Orient vorherrschenden Modell beschrieben werden. Verschiedene Autorinnen, darunter Mary Douglas und Jennifer Hargreaves umreissen die ideale Frau im viktorianischen Zeitalter als eine passive, zarte, hoeflich-zurueckhaltende und emotionale Kreatur. Mit der Welle der weiblichen Emanzipation wurde ein neues Bild der sportlichen Frau entworfen, das die Rekonstruktion weiblicher Koerperlichkeit entscheidend beeinflusste. Im Prozess kultureller Diffusion gerieten Teile dieser Stroemung in den Orient. Vor 1840 dominierte in China die konfuzianische Lehre, nach deren Regeln die Frauen zahlreiche schwerwiegende Einschraenkungen erfuhren und zum Teil auf sich nahmen, um so den Maennern zu gefallen. Feudale Traditionen konnten durch die Verbreitung westlicher Ideen der Weiblichkeit in China in den Hintergrund gedraengt werden. Wie die gedopten asiatischen Wundersportlerinnen 1994 bei Schwimm-, Leichtathletik- und Gewichtheberwettbewerben demonstrierten hat eine wahre Geschlechterrevolution stattgefunden. SaSach |
