Abstract des Autors

It was the aim of the present study to define the exact side of the lesion in suprascapular neuropathy in top level volleyball players. The investigation included an electromyographic and neurographic examination of the suparscapular nerve. Furthermore the spectrum of clinical pictures was investigated. The suprascapular neuropathy in volleyball players was compared to that occuring in other sports. The clinical and electrophysiological examination of 36 top level volleyball players showed a suprascapular neuropathy in 28% of the subjects. In contrast to previous reports on suprascapular neuropathies in volleyball players, the present investigation demonstrates an additional milder affection also of the nerve fibres supplying the m. supraspinatus. Early diagnosis is necessary because causal therapy is only possible before complete atrophy of the m. infraspinatus occurs. Verf.-Referat
