Abstract
The adolescent self-concept scale of vrey and a test for determining the perception of success in sport were administered to 3 246 Africaans speaking secondary school boys (Std 6-10). The group with a more positive perception of success in comparison wwith another group regardless of real results or winning in sport, showed a more positive self-concept than the group with a more negative perception of success in sport. It was concluded that the perception of success in sport is an important variable in the formation of the self-concept of the secondary school boy regardless of his real achievements in sport.
