Abstract

This study involved 1080 children in rural end urban, primary and secondary schools in Venda. The data collected involved mainly the perception of children concerning the value and meaning of physical education (aims), their preferences (means and movement sections), strukture (unit and lesson plans) and presentation (teaching). The majority of pupils experienced physical education as a school subject which primarily dealt with general health and fitness. The majority of pupils enjoyed taking part in physical education for a variety of reasons. Movement sections or activities which were experienced negatively by children, include physical fitness and athletic acitivities. The majority of pupils experienced the teaching as satisfactory. Preference participation differed between boys and girls and correlated with the participation of children in extracurricular activities. Interest in participating in own traditional dances as well as in those of other groups were expressed, while pupils were also keen to master new movement skills and games. Verf.-Referat
