abstract	Verf. beschreibt die Rugby Football Union in Queensland. Der Sport im kolonialisierten Australien hatte britische Urspruenge. Selbst speziell australische Footballregeln entstanden aufgrund von Erfahrungen mit englischen. Trotzdem entwickelte sich in diesem Sport ein typischer australischer Charakter und eine typisch australische Identitaet. Verf. beschreibt soziokulturelle Entwicklung in Queensland und speziell in Brisbane, wo viele britische Einwanderer Bevoelkerungsstruktur, -wachstum und -dichte beeinflussten. 1890 spielten 2 der Bevoelkerung rugby football; es gab etwa 70 Rugby-Clubs. Brisbane entwickelte sich zu einem Verwaltungs-, Handels-, Kultur-, Sport- und Erziehungszentrum in Queensland. Rugby-football hatte einen grossen Stellenwert in der Szenerie der Mittelklasse. Obwohl in Queensland am wenigsten Buerger aus Australien stammten, entwickelte sich ueber internatioanle Vergleichswettkaempfe im Rugby football bald ein Nationalgefuehl. Weitere soziale Einflussfaktoren waren der Kult der muscular christianity und der Zivilisationsprozess. Schumann
