Abstract
In this article, the author covers the principles he has used in the development of young shot putters. He gives the qualities he looks for in beginners, discusses technique, describes his training methods giving sample training shedules of novices and more experienced athletes and lists tests he uses to monitor progress. He also addresses the problem of young athletes attempts to gain weight, the effects of other sports on throwers and the specific conditions in the USA which affect the general development of the throwing events.
