Abstract des Autors

The acute effect of 80 mg Oxprenolol was studied in 8 healthy nonathletic and in 10 athletic subjects (swimmers). 1. Vital capacity was reduced only in the nonathletic subjects while maximum voluntary ventilation became less in both groups; 2. at rest hypotensive effects were not seen, but heart rate was significantly lower in both groups; 3. during exercise systolic pressure of both pressure levels was approximately the same in the nonathletic group; Pmax was reduced more markedly in the latter group; 4. exercise ventilation and V02max/kg became reduced in both groups, but 02 rose; 5. respiratory quotient rose both at rest and during exercise in both groups; 6. while the working capacityof the athletes stayed unaffected, it decreased slightly in the nonathletic subjects; 7. recovery time became shorter in both groups; 8. postexercise blood lactate was significantly higher in the athletes; 9. exercise-induced increase in the epinephrine level was completely missing, total catecholamine and NA levels were, however, unaffected. It was concluded that beta adrenergicreceptor blocking agents had dissimilar haemodynamic influence in the athleticand nonathletic subjects. Verf.-Referat
