Abstract des Autors
This section of the special issue is a reproduction by Graham Curry of Chapters Two and Three of John Goulstone's Football's Secret History. Independent of Adrian Harvey, the author discovered examples of football being played outside the setting of the public schools and argued robustly for a revision of the accepted narrative of the game's past. Although not as well read as other revisionist offerings, Goulstone's groundbreaking work deserves its place in this detailed study of the debate on football's early development.
