Abstract des Autors

The number of research studies focused on the effects of physical activity participation on scholastic achievement and cognitive health has grown exponentially since the beginning of the 21st century. As evident from previous chapters, there is a continued emphasis on standards-based achievement as a measure of school effectiveness, thus making the investigation of known facilitators of children’s learning, a priority. Although the increased breadth of research related to this topic is valued, there is concern that the design of research studies remains largely cross-sectional, examining the relationship of physical activity within a small subject sample of a single demographic. As such, while we have accumulated a wealth of descriptive evidence collectively, we have done little to advance the field in a novel and meaningful manner. Accordingly, the purpose of this chapter is to highlight some of the limitations of the existing research and to provide recommendations for future directions. (geändert)
