N2 - This paper aims to emphasise the historical perspective of sport psychology (SP) in Spain. We present the development of the following three phases to explain the current moment in which SP is established in the European country: precursor, consolidation and projection. In addition, the collaboration between Faculty of Physical Activity and Sport Science and the Faculty of Psychology is emphasised through the graduate and post-graduate programmes. This paper further highlights the training plan of the Spanish Olympic Committee (Comité Olimpico Español), and the institutional support for the promotion of elite sport in Spain. Furthermore, the future of SP in Spain is addressed in relation to academic pathways, research, professionalism, technology and strategic plans. Conclusions are drawn and further development is warranted.
