Abstract des Autors

The goal of this article is to track the history of the Academic Association for University Sport (AUS), to analyse its work and to show us an in-depth look at its organisation, the achieved results and tables at the National Students Universiade - Sofia (11 - 17 May 2014). Competitions in 11 sports took place at this Universiade - basketball, volleyball, judo, karate, kickboxing, track and field, swimming, tennis, table tennis, football and handball. 1261 university student-athletes and over 200 coaches and teachers from 30 Bulgarian universities took part in the event. 322 medals were awarded, divided between 24 of the participating Bulgarian universities. In the final comprehensive medal table, the 1st place was won by the Vasil Levski National Sports Academy with 48 gold, 39 silver and 39 bronze medal, 2nd was the Sv. Kliment Ohridski Sofia University with 14 gold, 16 silver and 19 bronze medals and the 3rd place went to the University of National and World Economy which with 11 gold, 11 silver and 9 bronze medals. By initiating and organising this Universiade after a lengthy break of about 20 years, the Academic Association for University Sport achieved the following goals it had set for itself: enriching the sports calendar of the students; improving the reputation of university sports in Bulgaria, increasing the number of young people who do physical exercise and practice sports, as well giving the students the opportunity to participate in competitive sporting events
