Abstract des Autors

An updated exercise intensity profile in elite biathletes competing on World Cup level may be useful in understanding the physiological demands of the different biathlon competitions, specifically sprint, pursuit, and individual disciplines. From a practical point of view, the information provided can also aid in the designing of proper training programs. Additionally, as coaches include races as a part of training, the intensity profile could be useful in understanding the loads imposed on the athletes at different times of the season. Therefore, the aims of the study were threefold: 1) to describe heart rate profiles (of elite athletes) during biathlon World Cup races of different events and distances; 2) to estimate exercise intensity during the competitions using head rate; and 3) to compare differences in heart rate between men and women.
