abstract The present study examined the effects of instructional and motivational self-talk on speed and accuracy of passing and shooting in basketball. Seventy two undergraduate students (Mage=20.09 years, +/- 1.12) were randomly assigned into two experimental (instructional and motivational) and a control groups. Three tasks (basketball passing speed, passing accuracy, and shooting accuracy) were conducted in 12 sessions: baseline assessment (pre-test), 10 training sessions, and final assessment (post-test). The results revealed that only in passing accuracy the instructional self-talk group improved its performance significantly. In general the results provided partial support for the task-demand-oriented matching hypothesis. Verf.-Referat
Il presente studio ha esaminato gli effetti del dialogo interiore (self-talk) sulla velocità e la precisione di tiro e passaggio nella pallacanestro. Settantadue studentesse universitarie (età media=20,09 +/- 1,12 anni) sono state assegnate in maniera casuale a due gruppi sperimentali (istruttivo e motivazionale) e a un gruppo di controllo. Sono stati effettuati tre compiti di pallacanestro (passaggio in velocità, passaggio di precisione e tiro di precisione) nel corso di 12 sessioni: valutazione basale (pre-test), 10 sessioni di allenamento e valutazione finale (post-test). I risultati hanno mostrato che il gruppo con dialogo interiore di tipo istruttivo ha migliorato le proprie prestazioni in maniera significativa solo nel passaggio di precisione. Nel complesso, i risultati hanno fornito una parziale conferma dell’ipotesi di corrispondenza con le richieste del compito (task-demand-oriented matching hypothesis). Verf.-Referat
