Abstract

Athletics is one of the most prominent sporting disciplines for persons with a disability and the one that attracts the largest numbers of participants and the widest range of events. It is a key sport for persons with a disability in these areas as it develops physical and spatio-temporal skills. This study aims to assess the physical and mechanical skills developed by participants with a physical and visual disability in athletics events, analysing and compare them with other groups of athletes. The study focuses on three types of athlete: those with below the knee amputations, the blind, and those with a visual impairment; and compares their performance with those of athletes of similar sporting ability. Comparing the data with that found in existing literature the authors draw conclusions and suggest ways of optimising athletic activity in these groups. Verf.-Referat (geändert)
