Abstract des Autors
Several authors have shown that during puberty growth is estimated more precisely from the passing of one stage of puberty to the next rather than from chronological age. Given that the speed of running can be considered as an element of motor development reflecting growth in universal terms the aim of this study was to analyse the development of running speed in relation to two criteria: chronological age, physiological age. The study involved 230 normal healthy girls aged 12 to 16 years. The stage of puberty was assessed by the method of direct observation of secondary sexual characteristics (Tanner, 1962). Running speed was assessed by means of performance in a 40 m sprint. The results indicated that age has no effect on the development of running speed, and that the effect of puberty is only evident between the third and fourth stages of puberty. Verf.-Referat
