Abstract
At Oklahoma State University middle distance runners concentrate heavily on mileage without forgetting, however, that races, more often than not, go to the runner with the best combination of speed and strength. With this in mind the year is separated into four distinct phases: 1. summer training, 2. cross-country training, 3. winter training and 4. spring training. The author describes training during these different phases in detail and presents examples of training schedules as well as typical weeks in fall, winter and spring. -schi-
