Abstract

The following questions are dealt with: 1. What type of athlete do you consider most suitable for the rotational shot put technique? 2. At what age would you introduce the rotational technique to boys/girls and what are the prerequisites? 3. What sort of leading-up stages would you use to introduce the rotational technique? 4. If you have had any experience in teaching both the linear and the rotational techniques, what guidelines would you offer to less experienced coaches? 5. Have you any special exercises you would recommend specifically for the rotational shot put to help develop a) strength and b) co-ordination? 6. What would you consider to be the ideal starting position for the rotational shot put, in terms of foot placement, balance and range of movement? 7. What do you think about the problem of invalid throws due to pushing off from the foot from outside the ring, which we saw many times at the World Indoor Championships 1997 in Paris but, due to controlling cameras, less often at the World Championships in Athens? 8. Do you think that there is any valid reason why, compared to the men, so few top class women shot putters use the rotational technique? Verf.-Referat (gekuerzt)
