Abstract des Autors

Aging of human being is characterized by a decrease of maximal aerobic power. The decline of this physiological parameter is in part age-associated and in part the result of physical inactivity leading to a decrease of human functional capacity. For this reason many people are not able to maintain functional independence while they are aging. This literature survey shows that elderly people are capable of delaying age-associated decrease of maximal aerobic power by following an exercise program, provided that the exercise program complies with quality guidelines. In this study recommendations are given with regard to the content of an effective exercise program in order to increase aerobic power based on various study results and existing ACSM guidelines.
