Abstract des Autors

Muscular imbalances are defined as a disproportion between muscles that mainly function as stabilizers (postural muscles) and those mainly inducing motion (phasic musles). Numerous studies show a high amount of muscular imbalances in athletes, some of them establishing a relationship between sport-specific imbalances and sport-specific injuries. In order to investigate the influence of muscular imbalances on the development of typical sport-specific lesions in elite swimmers, 46 swimmers (18 females, 28 males) of the German top swimming divisions (1st and 2nd Bundesliga) were examined orthopaedically. The application of Janda's Functional Muscular Diagnostics specifically revealed muscular imbalances. The clinical significance of these muscular imbalances and their influence on the occurrence of sport-specific lesions will be discussed. Verf.-Referat
