Abstract des Autors
In 10 men (aged 43+/-3 years) with mild hypertension we studied their response to long-term aerobic training on blood pressure at rest and during various types of exercise. After 18 months of training, blood pressures at rest and during ergometry were significantly reduced. During isometric testing, systolic blood pressure did not change significantly, but a significant reduction could be observed in diastolic pressure. Systolic pressure remained unchanged during cold pressor testing; diastolic pressure again decreased significantly. There were no significant changes in body weight during the training period. The results demonstrate that long-term aerobic training leads to a decrease in blood pressure at rest and during various types of exercise, and imply that exercise has a beneficial effect in the management of mild hypertension.
