Abstract des Autors

At four marathon events 50 dropouts (age 38+/-13 years) were examined in a mobile examination station and, in addition, 5 of them at the hospital. The causes for dropout were heavy legs/cramps (28%), heat/exhaustion (20%), orthopedic complaints (18%), impairment by infection (16%), respiratory difficulties (6%) and once each stitch in the side, stitches in the heart, gastric spasms, listlessness, dizziness and none. Of the 5 re-examined 3 suffered from moderate mitral regurgitation, systemic hypertension (WHO stage II), and beginning HNOCM. In general, all drop-outs showed a poor state of training (61+/-36 km/week). A shift of the lipoprotein profile with high HDL levels as an indicator of a lower cardiovascular risk could not be shown.
