Abstract des Autors

We investigated the secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) after injecting gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH, 1.25 micro-g) in 4 eumenorrheic (EU) and 4 amenorrheic (AM) trained sportswomen before, during, and after an exhaustive treadmill run. The results showed an exercise-induced decrease in LH pulse amplitude (LHpa) in AM whereas there was no significant change in EU. During exercise the values for LHpa were significantly lower in AM compared to EU. These results may indicate that prolonged physical exercise elicits an inhibitory effect on the pituitary, especially in amenorrheic women. Verf.-Referat
