Abstract des Autors

This study evaluated the effects of board length (BL), sliding rate (SR), body weight (W), percent fat (%F), total leg length (LL), inseam length (IL), and height (H) on the energy cost of slideboard exercise. Thirty-four women were tested by open-circuit calorimetry while performing the standard slide technique. Each subject exercised on two slideboard lengths (152.4 and 182.9 cm) at three sliding rates: 30, 40, and 50 cycles per min for 5 min. Laboratory trials were randomly assigned. A stepwise multiple regression analysis determined that SR, BL, W, and LL significantly account for the energy cost (VO2 L/min) of slideboard exercise (r=0.86, p<0.001). SR and BL accounted for 60% of the variance in VO2, W accounted for another 13%, and LL for 1% (p<0.001). The addition of %F, H, and IL did not significantly account for VO2. These results demonstrate that SR, Bl, W, and LL were all significant predictors of the energy cost of slideboard exercise. Verf.-Referat
