Abstract

To determine the effect of varying load (75, 85, 95 and 105 gm/kg) on peak power (PP), mean power (MP) and fatigue index (FI), 46 females, 25 nonathletes (NA), 13 field hockey (FH) and eight softball (SB) players, 21.9 +/- 3.2 years, performed the 30-Second Wingate Anaerobic Power Test (WAT) on four separate occasions. The variables PP (W and W/kg), MP (W and W/kg) and FI were analyzed using a repeated measure ANOVA. The results lead to the conclusion that females generate higher power outputs at loads greater than 75 gm/kg when performing the WAT. Loads of at least 105 gm/kg are needed to obtain maximal PP (W and W/kg). PP (W and W/kg) continues to increase from 75 to 105 gm/kg so greater load may be needed. Loads of at least 85 gm/kg are needed to generate maximal MP (W and MP W/kg). When testing females on the WAT, heavier loads are necessary to obtain maximal power outputs. Two separate tests with differing loads may be necessary to obtain maximal PP and MP outputs on the WAT. Verf.-Referat
