Abstract des Autors

The purpose of this study was to measure the physiological effects of the Wingate test during arm exercise. The Wingate test is a 30 seconds anaerobic test with a maximal pedaling frequency against a resistance relative to body weight. Subjects were 18 to 30 year old male rowers, weight lifters and nonathletes (n=22). The calculated variables were peak power, mean power, power decrease, base excess and heart rate. The mean peak power produced by the rowers, weight lifters and nonathletes were 596 W (7.7 W/kg body weight) and 515 W (6.7 W/kg body weight) respectively. The mean peak power relative to the mean muscle area of the cross-section of both upper arms were 9.7 W/cm**2, 6.7 W/cm**2 and 9.0 W/cm**2 respectively. During the Wingate test maximum heart rates of 190 beats/min and between 3.5 and 7 minutes after the test a mean base excess of 15 mmol/l were measured. The differences in peak power and peak power relative to body weight were not statistically significant. Relative to the muscle area the weight lifters produced a significantly lower peak power (p=0.001) and mean power (p=0.005) output. Verf.-Referat
