Abstract
To determine the effect of acceleration momentum on anaerobic power measured from the Margaria-Kalamen test, two separate experiments were performed. In the first, untrained males (n = 31) and females (n = 35) were evaluated for acceleration velocity, vertical velocity, and absolute and relative power. Acceleration momentum was significantly related to power in males but not in females. Body weight was negatively related to acceleration and vertical velocities in females but not in males. In the second experiment, 13 females performed 12 trials of the stair run procedure on each of 4 nonconsecutive days. Improvements in the relationships of acceleration velocity, vertical velocity, and absolute and relative power indicated substantial learning had taken place. Subjects with the lowest pre-learning power scores made the greatest improvements. Acceleration momentum alone is not a major determinant of anaerobic power. The presently accepted Margaria-Kalamen test may be a measure of motor skill as well as anaerobic power. Verf.-Referat
