Abstract des Autors
Compared to age matched controls athletes blood is more fluid. Reduced hematocrit and hemoglobin together with lower plasma viscosity and higher red cell flexibility result in lower blood viscosity. Red cell aggregability is not significantly different from sedentary subjects. The results indicate a facilitated oxygen transport and oxygen carrying capacity in sportsmen and furthermore suggest a link between cardiovascular risk and blood rheology.
