Abstract

The random performance of six different maximal ergometer and three different maximal treadmill tests by 9 to 13-year-olds showed that the rank order for VO2max or endurance times were very similar, but a treadmill test requiring the subject to run gave significantly higher values for VO2 max and heart rate and is the preferred test method. Comparison of normal values published for the various tests with the results of the subjects in the present study provided a human calibration comparison that showed a low performance of the children in a few laboratories, making it mandatory for all laboratories to establish and continuously update their own normal data.
