abstract The discussion about the standardization of ergometric investigations questions the reactions of cardiopulmonary and metabolic parameters depending on different tests and various input loads by submaximum and maximum work load. Groups of six highly trained athletes, six students of physical education, and six untrained subjects were tested. Besides the determination of heart rate and lactate concentration, we measured oxygen uptake, ventilation, respiration equivalent, and oxygen pulse on a closed system. Each subjects was tested up to maximum by two different standards, first beginning with an input load of 25 W and a stepwise increase of 25 W every 2 min (modified WHO test) and second with an input load of 50 W and a stepwise increase of 50 W every 3 min (BAL test). Further on, both tests were modified by the initial loads (WHO test: 25, 50, 75, and 100 W, and the BAL test: 50, 100, 150, and 200 W). According to our results, the obtained maximum depends on the test standard but not on the input load. Verf.-Referat
