Abstract

There is a systematic pattern of improvement in 19-year-old female subjects in response to increasing intensity and increasing frequency of training, as measured by changes in heart rate, work intensity, ventilation, blood lactate and V02 associated with work intensities that produce a heart rate of 170 beats min. The use of submaximal measurements of heart rate, work, ventilation, V02, and blood lactate is an appropriate means of assessing the physiologic fitness of nonathletic subjects. Significant improvements were shown in a number of measured parameter in response to training that produced V02 at and above 65 V02max. The detenbration in physiologic response by inactive (control) subjects draws attention to the need for the establishment of minimal levels of physical exercise. Verf.-Referat
