Abstract

It has been suggested in normal subjects that regular exercise may reduce the risk of developing coronary heart disease. This may be through a benefical alteration in the level of known risk factors such as the plasma lipids and lipoproteins. From epidemiologic studies it is known that the levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) and low density lipoprotein (LDL) are directly related to risk, whereas high density lipoprotein (HDL) concentrations are inversely related. It can therefore be postulated that manipulations which lower cholesterol, triglycerides, VLDL and LDL and raise HDL will lead to a reduction in risk. Verf.-Referat
