Abstract

This study presents a two-season analysis of medical problems on a class A professional baseball team. On the average, one or two problems were recorded per game. Fewer injuries-but more illnesses-occurred at the beginning and end of the season. Pitchers, catchers, second basemen, and right fielders had the most injuries, and musculoskeletal problems accounted for 86,4 of all injuries. Of the 382 new injuries, 82,2 were treated by the trainer, 13,1 by the team physician, and 4,7 by specialists. The data suggest that most problems were handled adequately by the team trainer and a primary care physician. Verf.-Referat
