Abstract

Physique and body composition of inter university football players have been studied. Data were collected on the Zonal Champions and runners up team of north zone during the inter university football tournament held at Patiala. An attempt has been made to compare the forward line players (attackers) with the defence liners (defenders). It is found that the latter are significantly taller, heavier and have higher values in most of the parameters examined. Thecummulative diameter and circumferential scores in relation to the height and weight of the respective group, are sligtly higher in case of the forward lineplayers. Body proportions of attackers and defenders are markedly similar withvery narrow and homogeneous distribution inspite of the fact that these teams came from far distant regions of India, which are not only distinct in their ethnic composition but also in their geographical and ecological environments. It seems that their body proportions have some advantages in game. The percentage contributions of individual measurements to the cumulative scores show that the foreward line players have narrower hips and broader femur bicondylardiameter accompanied by better developed thighs and calfs in comparison to those of the defender players. The foreward liners have also slightly less percentage of body fat and more. of lean body mass. Verf.-Referat
