Abstract

The T-wave amplitude of the resting exercise electrocardiogram was measured in48 middle-aged male runners and 45 non-exercisers. The T-wave amplitude of therunners was found to be significantly greater than that of the nonrunners at rest, maximal exercise, and at 2 and 6 minutes of recovery. In the runners, the T-wave was significantly elevated (above rest) only at the 2 min. recovery while in the nonrunners, the T amplitude was significantly higher at maximal exercise and remained at approximately the same level in early recovery. In the runners, the change in Twave amplitude from max exercise to the 2min recovery time and from 2 to 6 min recovery correlated significantly with treadmill endurance time (r=.62 and -.77). The response of the T-wave during strenuous exercise in middle-aged men may depend on the type of exercise and the state of training of the individual subjects. Verf.-Referat
