Abstract
Six untrained college-age males ran for eight min on a treadmill at 7.5 m.p.h. on four separate days. Following assessment of each individuals perferred stride length (PSL) energy cost was assessed at a moderate stride length (MSL), a long stride length (LSL) and a short stride length (SSL). Significant F ratios (P<.JE) for HR, VO2 and VE. Post hoc analysis revealed that MSL was significantly lower than LSL for HR, VO2 and VE. No significant differences were found between MSL and SSL. It was concluded that a moderate stride length is more economical in terms of energy cost than a long stride length and not different from a short stride length. Verf.-Referat
