Abstract

In alpine ski racing the athlete has a special task in downhill or slalom. When he tries to realize this task as fast as it is possible for him and to be faster as the opponents, he has to organize his behavior intentionally. To do so he is involved in analyzing the situation (cognitive processes) and experiencing feelings about the situation representing his evaluation of the situation (emotional processes). Both processes are fundamental components of psychic action regulation and will be emphasized in this contribution. The first part will focus on the realisation phase and the regulative processes in this phase of action. Mental factors are being observed and evidences from testing are being reported. In a second part the application of the concept by an interventional strategy considering cognitive and emotional processes and its interrelation is exemplified by cases of a nordic combination athlete and a downhill racer.
