Abstract

Carving is now seen as a major trend in winter sports. Young people, especially, follow the new image of alpine skiing. Ski schools put the carving trend on their curricula and life long traditional skiers at least give the new trend a try. Due to this evolution in the last few years many individuals and institutions feel obliged to discuss technical movement changes and methodological consequences on phenomenological basis. To realize an optimum training procedure, knowledge of relevant performance-specific parameters in ski racing and also recreational carving are necessary should standard criteria for specific means of training be fulfilled. Sport sciences feel compelled to compare carving turns and traditional parallel turns by means of complex biomechanical analysis. For this report two carving and two traditional parallel turn runs with equal radius and comparable speed were evaluated (14m/s for carving and 13m/s for traditional parallel run). The results of these measurements can be presented in a large number of kinematic, dynamic and electromyographic parameters. To work out differences between carving and traditional skiing the most important ones will be described and interpreted. Aus der EInleitung (erweitert)
