Abstract des Autors
World-class performance in marathon races can be achieved without any special dietary measures. It does not appear certain that special diets given for overcompensation to highly-trained athletes who already consume a higher proportion of carbohydrates can produce changes in performance and in metabolism or hormonal regulation. Therefore 14 well-trained marathon runners performed two runs of 31.9 km each with a 72-h interval. 7 participants were given a high (80%) carbohydrate diet after the first run, while a second group consumed mixed diet. The results show that a high carbohydrate diet under the conditions described produces only a slight increase in lactate utilisation, a slight reduction in the oxidation of fatty acids and a slight influence on performance.
