Abstract des Autors

The sport industry is one of the world’s fastest-growing sectors and can make significant contributions to economic activity and employment. In Indonesia, however, economic activity is primarily concentrated around the manufacturing and export of sporting goods. The Government recognises the potential for sport-related economic development through events, tourism and other entrepreneurial activities. However, efforts to further develop sport entrepreneurship in Indonesia are severely undermined by a general lack of knowledge about the current status, policies and activities of sport entrepreneurship in the country. Against this backdrop, this chapter aims to provide a first mapping of sport entrepreneurship in Indonesia and document how current policy initiatives do – or do not – support entrepreneurship and overall growth in the sport industry. In the following, we will present an overview of current sport entrepreneurship activity and expand on how national policy and programmes support the further entrepreneurial development of sport. Finally, we will combine these different findings to offer recommendations for further action and research. Overall, our findings suggest that activities focus too narrowly on the sporting goods sector and do not provide the support or training for broader sport entrepreneurial growth.
