Abstract des Autors

American football is the most popular collision sport in the USA and has increasing international participation. High-energy impacts and fast-paced play are inherent to all levels of participations from youth to professional football and result in injuries not commonly seen with other sports. Quarterbacks are especially vulnerable due to their exposure while throwing, but lineman, receivers, and safeties all have unique injuries which are more likely to occur in those playing their position as discussed in this chapter. Protective equipment and return to play rules have evolved in attempts to reduce the severity and frequency of injuries in American football and should be required for any practice or match involving contact.
