Abstract des Autors

While ophthalmology is generally regarded as a small specialty in sports medicine, anyone who has experienced, witnessed, or suffered an eye trauma remembers the uncertainty of the severity of the injury. Pain and impaired vision are just two main symptoms, which can be caused by a very wide range of mild to severe trauma in different sports, thus making a competent on-site examination and screening by the team staff important, to prevent further damage by unnecessarily prolonging the time until appropriate treatment. Corneal erosions, soft-tissue lacerations, eye-bulb contusions, and retinal detachments will be covered in this chapter.
