Abstract des Autors

Let us call it like it is: Sexual misconduct in sport is pervasive, endemic, and compounded by a lack of procedural safeguards for athletes. While existing stories of sexual misconduct in sport cannot be erased, a more welcoming and equitable sport environment for both current and future athletes can be achieved through evidence-based prevention programming and sustainable culture shifts. Accordingly, in this chapter, we examine two important questions: 1) how do we prevent future incidents of sexual misconduct in sport? and 2) how do we mitigate incidents of harm done by those who have perpetrated sexual misconduct? Existing sexual misconduct prevention programs in sport are reviewed and recommendations for integrative and distributed programming that acknowledges the systemic nature of sexual misconduct in sport and emphasizes the safety and well-being of an entire sport community are outlined. Throughout this chapter, we encourage readers to keep in mind that it is no longer enough to be moved by the resilience and testimonies of athletes who have experienced sexual misconduct in the world of sport; it is time to live out the commitment of eradicating the pervasive culture of silence in sport so there are no more stories to be told.
