Abstract des Autors

The development of talent is a complex process mediated by a host of psychological, social, physical, and environmental variables. Several authors have stressed the importance of applying a biopsychosocial approach to the area. The literature, however, abounds with research using unidisciplinary, and sometimes even unidimensional, approaches to the interlinked constructs of talent identification (TI), talent development (TD), and talent identification and development (TID). This chapter offers some evidence -based directions for the future, focused on optimizing the transfer from research to practice that is the bedrock of translational research and considers three distinct but related topics central to the TID process. It provides a critical review of TI processes and discusses a current hot topic of debate: early specialization. It focuses on the different approaches espoused for supporting the TD journey, and concludes by looking at how future research and practice could beneficially integrate ideas from these three constructs.
